UN launches SDG Talks for youth

26 October 2017 - The United Nations in Tajikistan commenced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Talks, a platform for youth to raise their voices on tackling challenges and achieving SDGs at the Russian-Tajik Slavonic University, Dushanbe.

Attended by Dr. Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Coordinator and UN Development Programme Resident Representative in Tajikistan, Mr. Mirboboev Rahmatullo, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science, Dr. Salihov Nurali Nazarovich, Rector of the University and Ms. Sanja Bojanic, UNDP Deputy Country Director, the event also welcomed more than 150 attendees including students, government, academics and UN staff.

Earlier this month, the UN organized the hackathon where around 70 youth from various universities in the country participated in a day-long discussion to address challenges of SDGs on poverty reduction, food security, health, gender equality and sustainable cities and communities.

Four winning teams of the hackathon developed their ideas and were given an opportunity to present on topics such as Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Quality Education (SDG 4). The event concluded with a number of energetic dance performances by a flash mob to further cement SDG awareness among the audience.
