Joint UN Appealing

In 2004 the UNCT in Tajikistan moved away form the previous mechanism for joint appealing, the Consolidated Appeals Process (CAP). In the ongoing transition from humanitarian assistance to longer-term development a joint appeal based on the UN priorities in Tajikistan for 2005-2009 was created for the first time in 2005, the “Moving Mountains UN Appeal for Tajikistan”.
The UN Appeal for 2005 was of great success as Agencies raised about 87% of the total amount of $57 million requested. A big thanks for the support the UNCT is receiving for its activities in Tajikistan has to go out to all the donors.
Together with the Government of Tajikistan, the UN has launched its second joint Appeal for Tajikistan, for 2006 in February in Dushanbe.
As in 2005, the UN Appeal for Tajikistan 2006 is a ‘development appeal’, outlining the joint UN strategy to contribute further to sustainable development countrywide and presenting 56 projects. Out of these, 14 projects are joint initiatives of two or more UN Agencies and 33 are entirely new projects. The current Appeal is for $51.3 million in total.

This Appeal and the activities it is representing seek to achieve a positive, long-lasting impact by combining the joint efforts of the UN Country Team and their partners to maximum effect.

This page contains the downloadable Appeal document and will include updated information on funds received by the UN Agencies. A mid-year review of the Appeal is planned after which information on projects’ status and outcomes will be placed here. Versions of the previous CAPs, Appeals, mid-year reviews and links to the financial tracking system maintained by OCHA can also be found.
